The Vegetarian Food Festival is one of NYC most anticipated events of the year. A weekend long celebration of healthy food, lots of vendors, guest speakers and free swag brings thousands of people together under one roof March 1st and 2nd.

This year, that roof is the Metropolitan Pavilion. If you are vegetarian, vegan, veg curious or just like free things, it’s worth spending your Saturday or Sunday (or both!) perusing booths and sampling treats so good they’ll make you wonder why you’ve never substituted almond milk for cow’s milk before.

The festival celebrates wholesome eating and the lifestyle that accompanies it. There will be three stages (named Apple, Banana and Pear – cute!) with different demonstrations and speakers every hour on the hour in addition to multiple activities for children.

Hear from doctors like Dr. Robert Ostfeld from Montefiore Medical Center in NYC, nutritionists like Lauren Walls, and motivational speakers like international model Emily Nolan Joseph. A highlight will surely be entertainer Myq Kaplan’s stand-up – if anyone can make up original jabs at tofu, it would be this Comedy Central showman.

Food companies will include Gardein, Tasty Bite, Peanut Butter & Co and the Raw Ice Cream Company. Restaurants like Beyond Sushi make an appearance along with beauty brands like the Fanciful Fox and clothing by The Herbivore Clothing Company.

It’s a great opportunity to discover new brands and make like-minded friends. Visitors travel from all over to sample next generation food and come face to face with the people behind some of the world’s most loved products. The festival is whatever you make of it- so go for the food, the clothes, the kid’s book readings, or all of the above.

Tickets are $30 for one day or $50 for both days on their website, but Amazon local is currently having a deal for 50% off those prices – so hurry up and grab yours!

Take the 9:30 am Seastreak ferry from Conner’s Highlands to make the beginning of the festival at 11am.
