It seems like trying to eat healthy, fresh food often means emptying out your wallet. Not at Northern Spy Food Company! This small, cozy eatery takes great pride in offering its diners a selection of delicious foods, made from local ingredients, at excellent prices! You can find them at 511 East 12th Street.
Northern Spy Food Company
Northern Spy opened in 2009, with a menu which was crafted around what ingredients were available seasonally. Their American-style meals feature vegetables, fruits, fish, and meats from the surrounding area. Their name even comes from one of New York state’s heirloom apples. In building their restaurant, re-purposed and reclaimed materials were used as much as possible, from the hickory wood floors to the dining tables made of salvaged bowling lanes.

Most meals on the Northern Spy menu are highly affordable, and entirely delectable. For early meals, the baked eggs and kale salad draw rave reviews. More expensive meals feature local seafoods and meats, prepared with unique flavor combinations which give diners a real treat. The restaurant offers a specials menu which caters to the best of the available local ingredients.

Northern Spy doesn’t have a vast dining room, but the character of the place more than makes up for it. Brunch and lunch are walk-in only affairs, and a portion of the dining room is always available for walk-in customers. There are limited reservations offered each night. If you’re interested in trying the chef’s tasting menu, you need to give the restaurant 24-hours advance notice, so they can plan your meal.
