Magnolia Bakery

In a city that can feel cold and impersonal thanks to all the concrete, New Yorkers know where to head when they want a taste of home – Magnolia Bakery.

Magnolia Bakery

Since it’s opening in 1996 in the West Village, the family owned bakery chain has expanded to 5 stores around Manhattan in addition to outposts in Chicago, LA and even Dubai. While they ship nationally, cupcakes this sweet are worth a trip to the bakery itself.

Featured on Sex & the City and in the Devil Wears Prada, Magnolia’s Bakery is certifiably chic. Beyond looks, the company has a big heart. They are known for their philanthropic contributions to the community and important organizations. They have partnered with over 650 charities, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Autism Speaks, NRDC, Michael J. Fox Foundation and Susan G. Komen Foundation in addition to providing food for local families.

If you dare, choose a cupcake from the likes of red velvet, chocolate, snickerdoodle, and caramel in their case which are free of trans fat and preservatives. Other baked goods they whip up are melt-in-your mouth cookies and chocolate covered macaroons, available to purchase in bulk. (For the ride home, perhaps?)

For the guys, picking up one of their Valentine’s Day themed cupcakes will score you points for originality with your lady. They are decorated with hearts in every (mostly edible) form.

Rounding out the sweets party are pies, pudding and cakes like no other. Banana pudding, apple and pecan pie and just about every flavor of cake imaginable. You might want to read over the overwhelming menu because we have a feeling it will take you a while to figure out what you want to order.

The good news? With Magnolia’s international fan base and in demand custom orders, they won’t be going anywhere.
