When was the last time you had a pillow fight in all your 5 year old glory? It was probably so long ago you can’t remember. Well that’s all about to change because one of New York City’s, heck, the world’s, most anticipated events is back in Washington Square Park this year. Yep, it’s International Pillow Fight Day and it’s being held this year on Saturday, April 5th.

International Pillow Fight Day 5

This news-making feather flying event brings together thousands of people in the beautiful, open downtown park located in Greenwich Village. After getting its start in New York in 2007, this silly pillow fight spread around the globe with similar fights happening in other cities.

This year’s theme is Superheroes vs. Villains, so dress up as your hero or evil nemesis to (gently) whack the heck out of strangers. Contrary to popular belief, feather-free pillows are required. However, teddy bears are encouraged and pajamas are welcome.

If you’re looking for a deeper meaning behind such a fun and silly activity, then here it is:  the pillows you bring can be donated to homeless shelters by way of the post-pillow fight donation bins. Last year a whopping 1,500 pillows were donated!

Acting like kids for a good cause? Count us in! The best part is that the event is free and so are kids 12 and under when they cruise with Seastreak until Memorial Day. Take your kids to Washington Square Park for the pillow fight of a lifetime!
