Looking for a screen showing something more high-brow than Duck Dynasty? Check out Film Forum, the creme de la culture of movies old and new. Since 1970, the Forum has been bringing independent movies to the big screen of it’s small cinema. Now located on Houston Street with 3 theaters and a $4 million annual budget, this once obscure film society has definitely come a long way.
Film Forum is currently featuring Cannes winner “The Past”, from the Academy Award®-winning director of A SEPARATION. “Following a four year separation, Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) returns to Paris from Tehran, upon his estranged French wife Marie’s (Bérénice Bejo) request, in order to finalize their divorce procedure so she can marry her new boyfriend Samir (Tahar Rahim). During his tense, brief stay, Ahmad discovers the conflicting nature of Marie’s relationship with her teenage daughter Lucie (Pauline Burlet). Ahmad’s efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret from their past.” You’ll definitely want to check this one out.
“MAGNIFICENT AND HAUNTING. Has the charged tension of a thriller. Bérénice Bejo is so lovely and sensually vivid here.”– Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
“THE WORK OF A MASTER.”– Andrew O’Hehir, Salon
Also available are some great features for the kids, like “Babe”, “The King and I” and “Annie Get Your Gun”. Lucky for you, kids ride for free with Seastreak until Memorial day, so the money you’ll save might just pay for your tickets to Film Forum!
