Das Bier

We at Seastreak like to keep a positive outlook and talk about the finest things in life. Today, we divert away from the best to give you the wurst: If you’re thirsty for delicious, imported German brews, or hungry for good eats, you’ve only got a couple blocks to walk from Pier 11 to get what you’re looking for. Bavaria Bierhaus, at 19 South William Street, serves up German favorites and European draft beers in an authentic-looking beer hall.

Bavaria Bierhaus

A Taste of Germany

Bavaria Bierhaus is a bi-level tavern which brings a piece of Deutchland to Manhattan’s Financial District. (Literally. The bar at Bavaria Bierhaus was made in Germany, and shipped over to New York in pieces.) You can enjoy this interesting artifact of a far-away place with seats inside, or enjoy the weather at tables on the cobblestones out front.

A vast segment of the American population believes cheese ought to be its own food group. Bavaria Bierhaus elevates this near-sacred food to new heights with the addition of beer. Try the brezel, which is an enormous German pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. For a heartier meal, you can’t go wrong with the beef stroganoff, or the gulasch pie with smoked paprika. Wash it all down with one of the 18 German beers on tap, or a bottle of your favorite brew.
